Beadessa started the same way a lot of good tools do: one person loved a craft… and another person loved solving problems.

Mistie has always been a bead person. The kind of person who can sit down with a cup of something warm, put on some music, and happily disappear into tiny colors and tiny details for hours. Over time she built up a little collection of patterns: some for bracelets, some for gifts, some just because the design was too pretty to pass up.

Eventually she wanted to do what every beader ends up wanting to do: make her own designs.

That’s where things got frustrating.

The design tools she tried were either hard to figure out, clunky to use, or so complicated that it felt like learning software became the project…not the actual beading part of the process. She’d get started, then hit a wall, then start over… and after a while she realized something that honestly surprised her: she couldn’t even finish one full design idea from start to end.

So she told Ryan.

Ryan’s the “website guy” in the house, the one who enjoys tinkering, building things, and figuring out how to make a tool feel simple and smooth. At first, the goal wasn’t “build an app.” The goal was just: let’s make something that finally feels easy enough that Mistie can actually finish a design.

So Ryan started building a tiny, simple version, just enough to test ideas. Mistie would try it, give feedback, and point out what felt confusing or slow. Ryan would tweak it, simplify something, move a button, fix a weird little behavior, and hand it back.

That back-and-forth turned into weeks… and then months.

And somewhere along the way, Beadessa stopped being “a little project for Mistie” and started becoming a real studio… something that felt fun to use, not like work. Mistie could finally sit down, build a design from scratch, adjust colors, refine details, and actually get to that satisfying moment where a pattern feels finished.

Then Mistie asked the question that changed everything:

“Do you think other people would want this too?”

That’s when we realized we might be onto something.

Beadessa is still built the same way it started: with real use, real feedback, and lots of little improvements that make designing feel more enjoyable and less frustrating. It’s not a big company tool. It’s a craft tool—made by two people who wanted something better and decided to build it.

If you’re here because you love beading, love designing, or you’ve ever had an idea in your head that you wished you could sketch out faster… we hope Beadessa feels like it was made for you.
